life update (a list)
We’re in the midst of moving.
Our Charleston apartment looks like Mr. Ables and I threw a huge party and then got in a massive, no holds barred fight. All with cardboard.
Our Greenville home buzzes with toxic paint fumes, so I stand outside in the Carolina heat while everyone peeks inside. I’ll wait until next week. I’ll see it all complete and love the surprise.
I met a...
Day of Dads
Tiny Bables,
Your papa will be the best, I just know it.
He’ll take you hiking, show you patience, laugh with you, run around the house like a wild man, teach you about God’s love, help you finish your dinner, teach you to tie your shoes (your marmie here was the very last to learn in her class), play you all kinds of awesome music, tell you when it’s okay to break the rules,...
this is home.
Tiny Bables,
I know—finally, thankfully—where you will sleep at night. I know the space where I will rock you, feed you, and watch you grow. I can see where you crib will go, maybe even the color of the walls of your nursery. The home where Mr. Ables and I will bring you to, where we will become a family.
And it is a place that has known family already. Your Grandpa Rudy grew up...

…well, all of you are winners. But the winner of the Bummis swim diaper is….
Congratulations, Rebecca! E-mail me your info, and I’ll forward it on to Modern Cloth. Thanks to everyone for their insights into cloth diapering…I’ll keep you posted on our own adventures.
cravings
me: I really wish I could have…
Mr. Ables: ice cream.
me: no
Mr. Ables: gummi bears?
me: no
Mr. Ables: Coke.
me: no
The correct answer? A big cold beer. No kidding. That sounds SO GOOD to me right now I can almost taste it.
And it’s not because I can’t have alcohol because I’m pregnant. Though in the past, I enjoyed a beer every now and then, for some reason...
"good luck with that": Cloth Diapering (and a...
Three weeks ago, I went to a cloth diapering class.
Wait, let me backtrack here. After we told my family to expect a Bables sometime at the end of summer, I told my brother (he has two kids) that we were planning to use cloth diapers. It was more like a mumbled confession.
He’s still laughing. Actually, I think I hear him right now.
But I have reasons, many of which refute why people...
choices
When it comes to having a baby here in the U.S., there are many choices to be made.
Maybe even too many.
But I’m thankful that I live in such a place where I can birth the way I choose and care for my baby in a way that makes me comfortable and secure.
With that, I’m going to write about some of the choices Mr. Ables and I are making when it comes to bringing Bables into the...
second Bables shower
Last month, (yes. last month, that’s right. As a teacher, May is a blur. Forgive me. And my fragmented writing) our friends Michael and Rita and Matt and Amy threw us an awesome baby shower. Bables is blessed indeed.
This is Rita:
she flew up from Tampa for the shower and then packed their Charleston apartment up and loaded it into a moving van (maybe they had help with that part)...
