things said to a pregnant woman: a series

Today was the day of warnings. 

Getting out of my car this morning, a woman who works in the office at school was in the process of wrangling her small children out of her minivan. 

Me: ‘morning.

Woman: (looking me dead in the eye) Enjoy the peace and quiet while you can. 

Me: (trying out a good-natured chuckle too early in the morning)

Woman: No.  Really.  Because things are gonna get really bad.
